David Scotland believes it is a privilege to be a multi-faceted co-creator, entrepreneur, idea-guy, producer, artist,
and teacher in America today. He is committed to excellence in helping not one person at a time, but millions of
people at a time and thus enjoying making positive, meaningful, and creative differences in our world, nation,
companies, cities, families, and individuals.
So how'd he get that way? Through always learning and teaching, by being willing to see and seize opportunities,
and by being open to seeing the treasure in the trial -- because when it comes to moving up in life, new levels brings
new devils. But there's always a way to succeed, if you can see greatness in the seed.
He grew up a “theatre brat” watching thousands and thousands of hours of orchestra rehearsals with his dad (a civil
engineer by day and musician by night), and theatre rehearsals with his mother (first grade teacher and then school
district PR director by day, actress by night). His dad taught music and also played with local symphonies and
chamber groups and was often featured on OPB Radio while his mother starred in professional theatre productions,
dinner theatre groups, and even worked with Danny Thomas, legendary Broadway director Harold Prince, and
Metropolitan Opera star Frank Guerra. When his mom became an NSPRA award-winning TV producer and national
educational video marketer (long before the internet), David helped her create educational training videos for
Disney University (for which he produced, composed, and performed the music), and thus received invaluable
“insider training.” He also learned a lot about writing, directing, and producing TV, theatre, radio, and short films
by observing his mother exec produce and star in her own highly successful kids TV show (on-air for 14 years, and
was a first for cable TV: longest running quality kids show putting over 33,000 kids on TV), and by doing radio
shows, TV commercials, and theatre.
David studied music (to be a concert pianist) under Stan Trogan and Dame Nellie Tholen, jazz and then film scoring
under Father Gary Uhlenkott, voice under Thom Blaylock, and tap dance under former Rockette Noreen Kendall
and later on Broadway's own Vicki Van Tassel, one of Tommy Tune's all-time favorite protégés. Unable to satisfy
his growing creative angst, the obsessive artist went on to win piano competitions with symphonies and chamber
music groups including the West Coast Premiere of "Concertina" by Jean Francaix. In his mid-twenties he landed a
part as a chorus tapper in 42nd Street directed by Broadway’s Vicky Van Tassel, finally living the dream of dancing
Gower Champion’s original choreography. Eventually he would executive produce, compose, and perform in his
first music single and music video called MONEY. As well, Scotland has been inspired to “go for it” in show business
and earn the second Oscar for his family – the first went to cousin Bill Thomas for best costume design, Spartacus.
Aside from being on his mom's TV show while still a teenager, he began his own broadcast career in college by being
a radio DJ for his own radio show from 6am to noon every weekend on KEWU-FM “The Jazz Station” while
producing and writing over 1,500 radio PSAs and then producing and hosting short local stories for “The Sporting
Edge” TV show in Spokane, WA. After graduating with four minors in business for radio/TV, art history,
music/film scoring, and English, he decided to wrap it up after six years of undergrad school with a B.A. in
management of human resources.
Immediately after graduation he became an entrepreneur by starting his own publishing company at 28 years old.
His first book, “A World Tour of Wisdom – Finding Inner Peace” (under his then pen name “David James”) sold
over 3,100 copies on its first print run and even sold foreign rights sold to India, Bangledesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.
Not bad for a first time, self-made author! He has since written and published other books, was featured in the New
York Times Bestselling book “Instant Income” by Janet Switzer, was chief screenwriter for two documentary films
(“UR PRE-APPROVED, and “Back From the Edge”), and was a regular columnist for BOX OFFICE magazine (“the
quintessential trade magazine for the motion picture exhibition industry”).
He entered the art world as a painter of abstract art under collector and patron Lady Sascha Siegel, White House
Design Coordinator for President John F. Kennedy and personal design coordinator for First Lady Jackie Kennedy.
Then, on June 8, 2006 he launched a brand new art movement ("Companionism") at the Portland Art Museum with
a world premiere LIVE performance starring Tucker Smallwood (of TV / film fame) and actress Jana Cole reading
Scotland’s poetry that took ten years to write as he battled his way back from cancer. That performance was filmed
for a full-length documentary about the artist and his unique method of “energetic” creation which has been
scientifically verified by Arizona State University physics labs, using brain scans, to actually heal the viewer
because of unusual healing frequencies related to the works, themselves.
His paintings are held in the collections of exclusive art dealers worldwide including those of Dr. Eugene and Janice
Ephron, Sunny Chayes, Jackie Koop, Elizabeth Stevens, Robert G. Allen, Mark Victor Hansen, George Krikorian,

immune system only to be diagnosed with terminal cancer at 26 years old and given only ten years to live (but
beating it with all-natural methods and no drugs, chemo, or surgery of any kind), and despite that in 2009 he was
diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome (which, ironically, has helped him tremendously to finally explain a lot of why
he is the way he is!), David is determined to live his life every day with thankfulness and gratefulness -- for having a
second chance at life and to live his dreams while helping others achieve theirs.
His life is a living testimony to never giving up while being an inspiration to others for creating, doing, and being
with excellence while enjoying and sharing a life based on creating, peace, love, joy, power, wisdom, victory, and
